PHAN VAN DONG

Birth: in 1925 at Hue, Vietnam.

Schooling: Middle School in Hue.

Career: Nurse

Longest Residence: Camranh, Vietnam, from 1960 to 1988

Settled in Norway: 1988, ODP program.

Email: dongphannauy@gmail.com

CHARITY WORKS:

1988-1994: Charity works from Hue to Vinhlong, helping more than 100 desparate people in six different locations.

1994-2008: Number of people who get help reduced to about 50.

2008-present: 25 poor lonely old people around Camranh get 10 kg of rice every month, each person; and medication for an infirmary in DongYai, Khanhhoa. Occasionally he pitched some gifts into DaiAn Orphanage in DongLac, Camranh and into NhanAi LoveHome also in DongLac, Camranh. His works are shrinking because mainly of his old age and of his own economically hard conditions. He still keeps going thank to the help of many generous Norwegian benefactors and numerous heartful Vietnamese friends. At the age of 63, he came to Norway; he could not speak the Norwegian language for a few years. He depended since then on Social Welfare, just enough to pay his monthly bills. But he started his Charity Works right away, sending money back to Vietnam to help people more miserable than himself. How could he do it? He collected the empty glass bottles thrown around the street or in parks; he got 1 dollars for 7 bottles; that could buy 2 kg of rice in Vietnam. In a good day, he could get 30 bottles; that's enough 6 kgs of rice. He could walk through the streets and parks in Kristiansand, Norway, exercising in two days to send rice to Vietnam for one desparate lonely poor old man or woman to survive another month. Among close friends, he is called the "GarbageOldMan" for his scavenging thru Kristiansand trash to help people back in his native land. As they say in Vietnam, "the begger helps the panhandler." After a while, there was stricter law in Kristiansand, forbidding throwing bottles in the street. His "garbage career" went into recession. He turned to his Norwegian friends and benefactors who gave him some money for his charity works in Vietnam. In the name of many desparate poor lonely old people and many relinquished babies in Vietnam, he is very thankful to those generous Norwegians and any friends that give him a hand in his charity works.

PICTURES OF VISITS TO DAI AN ORPHANAGE IN CAMRANH, VIETNAM, 2010 The children and babies in Dai An Orphanage are not orphan; they are just relinquished by their parents who decided to abort them; they survived only thanks to a Catholic Priest, FR. Thai Ba Dai (at chan_thien_my@yahoo.com), who came to some abortion clinic and begged their mothers to not abort and promised their decent upbringing; in a few cases FR. Thai Ba Dai also provided help for the miserable mothers-to-be. Anyone who want to help those poor children and babies are welcome to contact FR. Thai Ba Dai at chan_thien_mya@yahoo.com or Mr. Phan Van Dong at dongphannauy@gmail.com .

This is how Mr. Phan Van Dong works for his Charity Operation in Vietnam. He scavenged the trash around Kristiansand, Norway for empty aluminum cans and glass bottles and sold it to a recycling plan, seven bottles for one dollar. He sends the proceeds to Camranh, Vietnam to help some poor lonely old people with 10 kg of rice (about 5 dollars) a month.

PHAN VAN DONG AT DONG-YAI DISPENSARY, KHANH-HOA, VIETNAM, 2011

PHAN VAN DONG VISITED MRS. NGUYEN KIM LIEN HOPELESSLY Ill IN TRAI-KA, CAM-RANH, VIETNAM

On 10 March 2011, Mr. Phan Van Dong visited Mrs. Nguyen Kim Lien hopelessly ill, who lived with her very old parents and a illiterate jobless husband.

A clip from the visit to Mrs. Nguyen Kim Lien on 10 March 2011:

Mrs. Ngoc-Ha has been helped by Mr. Phan Van Dong; she got epilepsy. Of course, 10 kg of rice provided every month by Mr. Phan Van Dong is not enough for her to live on; she must goes to the market everyday begging for more. If you're worrying about the habitation of some endangered animals, then please include her into the list. Clip of Mrs. Ngoc-Ha's burrow:

PHAN VAN DONG VISITED TRAN TOAN THIEN, JUST AMPUTATED AFTER AN TRAFFIC ACCIDENT Tran Toan Thien is just a young man, 18 years of age, whose future had been shut down after a tragic traffic accident; he got his leg amputated just below his left knee. His father died a few months back after a long bedridden illness. His mother ia lame quite a while now. Believe it: disasters never come alone. You couldn't see Mr. Phan Van Dong anywhere in the following pictures because he was the one who took them.

REUNION OF THE NEEDY MR. PHAN VAN DONG SUPPORTED

On 11 March 2011, Mr. Phan Van Dong invited all the needy (upto 32 in March 2011) he had been supported since 1985 to a friendly lunch at Mrs. Vo Kim Lan's house. Following are some pictures of that reunion.

Clips (three) of the reunion of the needy on 11 March 2011:

MR. PHAN VAN DONG AT DAIAN LOVEHOME ORPHANAGE

On 13 March 2011, Mr. Phan Van Dong visited DaiAn Lovehome of the relinquished children in Camranh, the children rescued by FR. Thai Ba Dai from some abortion clinics. He couldn't help those children that much much, just a few hundred dollars; and that modest handout also comes from his generous acquaintance in Norway and in Australia. Here's some pictures of that visit.

  1. Hi all !
